This historic Santa Fe home, although renovated in 1989 retains many of its architectural details. A large, sun-washed oversized rug softens and complements the Old World design. This Santa Fe breakfast area is rich in interest due to its clay artwork, painted wall stickers and a banquette printed with paisley. A fireplace made of adobe anchors the far corner, and keeps the room warm.

Sometimes, one textile is all that's needed to give an area a Wild West feel. Sarah Wittenbraker, the owner and designer, kept her kitchen white, minimalistic, and very clean -- except for the bright, graphic rug. This kitchen renovation included no drywall. The finished birch ceilings, graphic walls and concrete floor create an organic warmth that contrasts with the metal beams. This space is a modern and pared down version of Southwestern style. Vigas, wood ceiling beams made in traditional adobe architecture and made of wood, are the signature feature of this elegant dining area. A large wooden table, ten slipper seats, and a buffet are also available to welcome guests.

Western Themed Bath Rugs
Tasked with turning an open loft space into a comfortable master suite in a condo in San Francisco's Potrero Hill, Studio Revolution chose to call attention to the space's architectural quirks rather than hide them. Wood set in a chevron pattern creates an inviting feature wall with the rusticity of the design balanced by the clean lines of the leather headboard, the contemporary nightstands and the wallpaper covering the closet wall. A white wall and white bed linens create a beautifully bright scene in this master bedroom. Patterned throw pillows placed with layers of white pillows add color to the bed and a bohemian influence to the look. Mounted gold sconces frame a plexiglass printed ocean photograph.

This master bathroom looks especially grand with its hand-carved mirrors, elongated vanity with his-and-her sinks and bathtub defined by stone columns. Artisan pieces, especially wood carving, are seen often in Western decor. This bathroom is full of beautiful colors and patterns thanks to Mexican influence, which is pervasive in Southwestern and Californian design. Painted and glazed tiles make up the backsplash and countertop. The sink is painted ceramic and the mirror has a delicate painted pattern as well.
